CAN YOU KEEP A SECRET?
How about seven?
Hey friends! You up for some wedding planning tricks of the trade? Hold on tight, I’ve got some goodies for y’all today.
So you’ve found yourself planning your dream wedding--maybe you’ve booked an awesome photographer, church, reception space, and florist. Maybe you’ve got your food + cake all set to go. But you’re worried you might be missing something.
Well, that’s where this post comes in! Consider this your unofficial checklist to wrap up your wedding planning. Here are a few pieces of the big day you don’t want to forget:
1. Your getting-ready space.
Have you dreamed of those beautiful getting-ready pics with the girls? Well, it takes a little planning ahead to get them. Don’t forget to choose a space that will be really well-lit on the morning or day of. Think about where the sunlight will come in, the seating, and what will be around you. Will the photographer or videographer have space to move around and be creative with the shots?
2. Your details.
You know those beautiful flat-lays of your most intricate pieces, from rings to hairpins, flowers and invites? Plan to have those set aside at the beginning of the day for your photog to get in + out quickly and have the max amount of time with the min amount of hassle. Even think about putting someone in your bridal party in charge of that (as long as they’re trustworthy).
3. Your food.
No, I’m not talking about catering. I’m talking about what you’ll eat while you get ready or wait on your carriage to take you to the big event. This is one of the most over-looked things, and hangry family members + brides are not fun for anyone. So taking care of yourself with food + water and planing ahead can shave a lot of stress off the big day.
4. Your escape plan.
Alright, this is for the more traditional couples, the ones who aren’t planning on a first look before she’s walking down the aisle. I respect you so much, and that’s why I made this one of my tips. So what if, heaven forbid, you were to cross paths with your future spouse on the big day? What a nightmare, amiright?! That’s why this step is so critical, making sure everyone is briefed on the plan and there’s a backup plan should things go awry. Good communication all day long, with one or two people in charge at one time, is key to making this dream day go off without a hitch.
5. Your entrance.
Have you thought about how you and the bridal party will make your big entrance after cocktail hour? Will you come in unannounced and just start mingling? Or will you come in in pairs with the bass bumpin and everyone cheering? What’s your style? Start with that question and work from there!
6. Your special moments.
This day can really get swept away from you if you aren’t careful. It’s important to plan in those special moments to savor the big day, just the two of you. This could be a sunset session with your photog during dinner, a slow dance at the end of the night when everyone’s gone home, or simply having a grand exit early to spend the rest of the night just the two of you. There’s no right or wrong choice here, just whatever feels right for you two!
7. Your traditions.
Maybe you’ve covered everything already mentioned and you’re feeling good about your big day. If so, kudos to you, you’re killing it! Let’s take it up a notch and sprinkle in some special traditions. Maybe incorporate the old saying, “Something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue.” Find something from your grandmother or her mother and something from his side of the family, too--it could be worn, used as decor, incorporated into the ceremony or reception, your choice! Just make it special + unique to you two.
